Paul Kelly’s life is fine

Australian musical icon Paul Kelly is back with a new album Life Is Fine and a tour for November and December. Kelly will be joined by some amazing guests on various parts of the tour including the legendary US Americana singer Steve Earle, Middle Kids, Busby Marou and one of our favourites Sahara Beck as support at the Rockhampton show. Life Is Fine has already smacked a number 1  and appears to be some of his strongest songwriting. It features long time collaborators Vika and Linda Bull taking lead on PK written songs.   PAUL KELLY Tour NOVEMBERRead More

Master of Thoughtful, Feelgood TV

English teacher and guest blogger Jimi Beavis provides some thoughts on Master Of None. I have nearly finished the second season of Netflix’s Master of None and it is already making me think about it when I am far away from a position where I can watch it. I think about the characters and what they go through. It is truly beautiful and also innovative and one that stands up to many others of the Golden Age of TV, and many other films based around 30-somethings who face mortality, life and love. ItRead More

More Splendidness of Splendour

MARIAH JAEGER is off to Splendour soon to report for SK. She is very excited. Here are some of the reasons why! Splendour in the Grass released a killer lineup in the last week or so that doesn’t fail to impress. This year’s biggest acts are set to storm the stages. Here are the performers I’m most excited about seeing. Friday, July 21 RL GRIME In my opinion the best act all weekend. He is sure to deliver a set to remember dropping boundary pushing tracks especially with his recentRead More

The Splendour of Splendour Pt. 1

BY JACK GIESS and EMMA MITCHELL You heard it right.   It’s time to get your camping gear, 2 minute noodles for sustenance, gum boots, festival clothes and all the body glitter you can stick onto your body. The Splendour 2017 lineup is out and it’s any music lover’s wet dream. There has been major speculation as to who is playing this year’s North Byron parkland wonderland of music. But the wait is over. This year’s lineup is one to behold. Even if you decide to only go one day thereRead More
EMCEE Kerser took his sixth album on tour and our man Declan McClenaghan caught the U18 show for the popular Australian rapper. Kerser is a rapper hailing from the suburbs of south western Sydney. He recently released his sixth studio album Tradition and did a national tour to support it. I went and saw him play his underage Brisbane show and he killed it. He was supported by local rappers Nerve and Skrub who each did a set opening for The Kers. This was a big deal for the supportsRead More
Truck stop loneliness, beautiful guitar reverb, dance choreography, horns and out of time clapping made for a glorious night of beautiful Americana when Nathaniel Rateliffe and the Nightsweats toured with Australia’s own CW Stoneking to the Tivoli, Brisbane. There have been almost too many gigs in Australia lately and seeing as this is the main way for bands to make money, they would thank thee and pay some bills. I had to choose between Teenage Fanclub and CW/Nathaniel Rateliffe and it was tough but the latter won. I have seenRead More

Moving out for a rock n roll party

West TheBarton Brothel Party. Controversial name, but they really are rock n roll, after all. Just have a listen to this bloody good new single. And they’re from Adelaide. I am gonna say the best Adelaide band around right now. The band was one of the standouts of Bigsound last year with the growling vocals, flavour for the rock beat to sink cool ones and show everyone your armpit hair. Check out the new single ‘Moving Out’ and then check the touring dates below.   Saturday March 25 The HillsRead More
