About

In late 2004, four mates got together with the dream of starting a record label to assist developing artists. In 2005 SK released its first product 'Acoustics and Stones - Volume One'; which was a collection of songs recorded in our barely better than home studio. The artists on that initial CD included Charlie Thomson, who is now emcee with The Winnie Coopers, Dan Van Zutphen, now the front man for The Paper and The Plane, and Steve Grady - who happens to be launching his debut album on Starving Kids Records in 2009. We pressed 500 units and have since sold them all.  As they say - from little things big things grow.

In our five short years of existence we've helped a number of young bands get a start in this tough industry. It's what we love to do. Our ultimate goal is to help young artists move forward in this industry and to see them enjoying fruitful careers.

Here are the SK team and affiliates:

Brett Wood is the Managing Director of Music Industry Community Services Limited, which is the parent body of SK. Brett's role in SK is developing budgets, facilitating various projects and working alongside artists.

Jay Stockwell handles the web side of things for SK and associated artists. Jay is also involved with financing various projects.

Other Starving Kids friends:

Joel Taylor is the brains behind Perpetual Salvation Industries (PSI) a merchandising business that stocks SK artists’ gear and assists young artists in acquiring their own merchandise.
Laurie Truce is the Executive Chairman of the Indigo Group and is our business mentor. Laurie is also a financial supporter of various projects.
Ros Wood assists in balancing the books for the SK team.
Megan Horne assists SK with administration services.
James Pye and Matt Palmer are graphic designers who share their skills with the SK family.
Sophie Benjamin looks after our media relations.
